The Adventures of Willy Beamish (Amiga)

Happy holidays everyone! As, Retro Treasures will be taking a few days off, I thought I'd search and post something I had always associated with this time of the year: The Adventures of Willy Beamish as developed by Dynamix and published by Sierra. A cartoon-y adventure game that's I've loved since I was a child.

So, here's a fine copy of Willy Beamish (Amiga) up for grabs on eBay. It's the German Amiga version of the game and it comes in its glorious box with all the 3.5" disks, the excellent manual, the stickers and that pizza leaflet. Seller ships worldwide.

Happy 2016!

Not the best fantasy hack-'n'-slash to ever grace the SNES, but definitely a solid 16-bit arcade offering with nice visuals, the PAL version of King Of Dragons for the Super Nintendo is a very rare and expensive game nonetheless. Expect this King of Dragons (SNES) eBay auction to reach a pretty impressive price then, as it is indeed the complete boxed PAL version that's being sold.

Moonstone: A Hard Day's Knight (Amiga)

Moonstone: A Hard Day's Knight is one of the rarest games one can grab for ones Amiga and also one of the best. It's a wonderful action-RPG of sorts with incredibly gory arcade battles, druids, traditional RPG-esque taverns, brilliant fantasy monsters, bits of multiplayer and some excellent graphics. Also, it was one of my favourite games during those awkward teen years.

Anyway. Thing is you can bid on this copy of Moonstone (Amiga) on eBay for a complete boxed copy of the game. It comes with manual, Mindscape catalogue, 3.5" disks, poster and registration card. Seller ships to most places worldwide.

Rayman (Atari Jaguar)

It was stunning in the '90s and it's stunning now. Only difference is that Rayman is nowadays a huge international franchise, whereas 20 years ago it was originally envisaged as an Atari Jaguar exclusive. Still, if you do own Atari's final console, you do owe it a copy of Rayman; it was after all the system's finest platformer and its cartoony 2D were truly beautiful. Also, it's pretty rare too.

Anyway. Here's a Rayman (Atari Jaguar) auction. The game comes complete in its box with manual and lovely cartridge and the seller ships worldwide.

Haven't posted much about analog gaming lately, but, well, here's an auction for the first 10 issues of White Dwarf to make things up for you. Besides, you can't grab many things much more iconic than these classic issues by Games Workshop, can you? Happily they seem to be in great condition too.

The Astro Wars Electronic Game

Astro Wars, the electronic table top game from the very early '80s, was one of the few decent shmups one could play outside the halls of an arcade and remains a fun and collectible vintage gaming machine that, impressively, sports four different levels. Oh, and there's this particular Japanese version of Astro Wars you can grab off of eBay too...

The mini-arcade comes in its original box and is tested and working. Seller ships worldwide.

TurboDuo & 6 Games

The TurboDuo, the American version of the PC Engine Duo, was released by NEC and Hudson Soft in 1991 and was a rather sleek combination of the TurboGrafx-16 and its CD add-on in a single unit. Despite being able to play both HuCards and CDs the console --probably due to its hefty price-tag-- didn't do particularly well and is nowadays quite the rarity.

Now, provided you know how to fix its CD-drive (I've been told this isn't too difficult to do) this Turbo Duo eBay auction, might just be the thing for you. The console comes complete in its box and with six games including Splatterhouse, Bonk's Adventure and Bloody Wolf.

One seemingly unused Sinclair QL

The design flaws are obvious now, but so is the ambition that was driving the Sinclair QL and eventually turned it into a beautiful, affordable 16-bit computer filled with clever ideas that flopped spectacularly. This Sinclair QL eBay auction, on the other hand, is obviously intriguing, especially considering the micro has most probably never been used.

It does come complete in its original box and the seller ships to most places worldwide.

The City Of Lost Children (PC)

It may have not aged particularly gracefully and its puzzles may still be either dull or nigh on impossible, but I --to this very day-- do love the looks, atmosphere and overall vibe of The City Of Lost Children. As for you dear reader, well, have a look at this sealed and boxed PC copy of the thing that's made itself available via this The City Of Lost Children (PC) eBay auction. Looks highly affordable (for now) and enticing, doesn't it?

CD-i with Hotel Mario & Link: The Faces Of Evil

Infamous as they might be, both Hotel Mario and Link: The Faces of Evil are highly coveted (and collectible) offerings. They are, after all, of the rare breed of games starring Nintendo characters that were not developed by Nintendo. Also, they are only available for the CD-i.

Interestingly you can grab both games complete with the console to play them on via this Philips CD-i eBay auction. The console is in working order and besides Hotel Mario and The Faces of Evil it also comes with game controller, media controller and the necessary leads.

Fooblitzky (Atari 800XL)

Infocom's interesting and only slightly desperate video/board-game hybrid, Fooblitzky, despite being described as a "computer graphics strategy game" failed to save the company and became a rather rare and very intriguing oddity instead. Here's what the Digital Antiquarian has to say about it and here's a Fooblitzky (Atari 800) eBay auction. It's the boxed Atari 8-bit version of the game you'll be bidding on and it's only missing a single marker.

Amstrad GX 4000 - New

The Amstrad GX4000 must have sounded really good on paper, but the console version of the CPC Plus, despite the trusted 8-bit technology and the added custom chips, flopped. And it flopped badly enough to essentially kill off any other Amstrad attempt at home computing and gaming. Still, I always liked this console and thought it came with a properly impressive pack-in game. Besides, it looks like a spaceship.

Happily, you can grab the thing new and complete in its box via this Amstrad GX 4000 eBay auction. Obviously, the Burnin' Rubber cartridge, the manuals, the controllers and everything else is included. Seller ships worldwide.

1 SEGA Master System, 14 Games

The original version of the Sega Master System is a lovely, 8-bit, pyramid-esque gaming contraption that came packed with ideas and impressive graphics capabilities. Happily, it was also supported by hundreds of games and though it never came close to challenging the global dominance of the NES it did very well in Europe.

Also, you can grab a fully working one via this Sega Master System Mark I eBay auction.

The console on offer comes with a standard controller, an arcade controller and the light-gun. Oh, and beside the two built-in games (Hang on and Safari Hunt), you 'll be getting boxed copies of Klax, Strider and Speedball and another 9 games on cartridge including Sonic, Rampart and Taz-Mania.

A most amazing Atari TT030

Originally intended as an affordable Unix workstation the Atari TT030 was rather late to that party and ended up being the most powerful member of the Atari ST family of computers instead. It was also the most expensive, what with its $2995 price tag that must have raised quite a few eyebrows back in 1990. Then again all that RAM, exotic capabilities and 68030 processing power couldn't have come much cheaper.

Interestingly, this excellently preserved Atari TT030 that's made itself available on eBay is way more powerful than the launch model. It has been upgraded with the powerful VME Crazy Dots graphics card, sports a 9GB hard drive (filled with software) and comes with 4MB of 16-bit and 64MB of 32-bit RAM. The computer has been thoroughly cleaned and is accompanied by its original keyboard, mouse and cables.

Elevator Action 2 Returns (Sega Saturn)

Elevator Action (2) Returns was amazing in the arcades and amazing on Sega's Saturn. Its cartoony graphics and frantic action were brilliantly ported over to the console with the help of a shiny little disc -- a rather rare disc these days, mind you, especially when boxed, in mint conditioned and produced for the Japanese Saturn. A disc you can own via this Elevator Action (2) Returns (Saturn) eBay auction.

The Japanese NTSC game comes complete in its jewel case with its manual and seems to be in near mint condition. Seller ships to the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia.

The working vectors of Vectrex

It was indeed an amazing mini-arcade and an impressive machine that let you play with crisp vector graphics and analog controllers at home. Yes, it was the Vectrex and it was and is both excellent and quite the rarity.

The Portable Amstrad PPC512

Having a fully working and truly portable IBM PC compatible computer back in 1988 was a truly exotic idea. Having one that was remotely affordable too was simply outrageous and that's why Amstrad must have been incredibly proud of its PPC512 Portable Computer. Built around NEC's 8MHz V30 CPU, sporting a LCD CGA/MDA screen, 512kb of RAM, a disk drive and a full-sized keyboard, the PPC512 was indeed a proper PC. One that looked very nice too.

To own it, you can bid on this Amstrad PPC512 auction on eBay for a fully working machine. The PC comes with manuals, power supply, a couple disks and a carry case. Seller ships to most places worldwide.

The NES Power Glove

As far as incredibly ambitious --almost magical-- controllers go, nobody could ever fault the infamous PowerGlove by Mattel for the Nintendo Entertainment System. This was a suitably futuristic glove, a high-tech gadget that should have cost thousands of dollars and it would allow you to control your NES games via gestures.

Of course, it didn't really, though it did come relatively close considering the era and the asking price.

Now, the Power Glove may have never really worked properly, but it remains both iconic and collectible. What's more, you can grab it complete in its box via this PowerGlove (NES) auction on eBay. Its size is large, mind you.

Star Wars: TIE Fighter (PC)

Unsurpassed space fighting sim Star Wars: TIE Fighter by LucasArts was much more than an excellent game. It is actually what made the Empire sound like a plausible, logically evil state and I've always loved it for that. You can now love it too with the help of this Star Wars: TIE Fighter (PC) eBay auction.

The game comes complete in its box with 3.5" disks, manual, quick reference sheet and The Stele Chronicles book (a surprisingly enjoyable read). Seller ships only within Europe.

MB Microvision & Games

By placing the CPU and the tiny 16 by 16 pixels screen in the cartridge and not the console, Jay Smith managed to create the very first handheld gaming machine back in 1981: the Milton Bradley Microvision. Sadly the tech and cost limitations of the time meant the Microvision failed to become a success and only got 12 games released for it.

On the other hand, you can bid on eight of those game and the console (which comes with one more game, Blockbuster) to play them on via this MB Microvision eBay auction. Everything works great and comes in its original box. Baseball and Connect Four are sealed.

Seller ships only within the US.

Super Turrican 1 & 2 (SNES)

I still find the notion of playing Turrican on a console weird, but also strangely alluring. So, uhm, why not bid on this excellently preserved (and fully working) Super Turrican / Super Turrican 2 (SNES) cartridge on eBay?

The game is rare and for US/NTSC consoles. Seller ships to most places worldwide.
